Ok, lame title I know. But this is actually the name of the game I will be reviewing for you today. Zombies!!! has been around since 2001, and I picked up my copy a few years ago. If you haven’t noticed by now I am always behind the times. Thanks for being loyal anyway.

Since the end of the world did not happen last week, much to my dismay we will not be playing host to masses of undead. On the flip side, you could try to play this game instead and get a similar effect.

That is not proper chain saw edict.

You play as survivors trying to escape the zombie hoard. You also get to control the zombies in this game in which you can use this to your advantage of getting to safety easer and/or hindering your opponents advances to the copper. Instead of a pre built board, you get to build the board as you play by laying out tiles and spawning zombies across the board. This can lead to building towns that look like they were engineered by MC Escher, but I digress. Play this to your advantage as you raid shopping marts, gun shops, and home depots to find the tools necessary to your survival. So to make things even more interesting cards are dealt out which can be used in helping with attacks and defense, or triggering events that can change the tides of the game.

That plastic figure must be shaking in his boots.

I love that this game is so customizable. Take out the cards you don’t like, build and paint your own figurines, add expansion sets, the combinations are endless. Every time you play will be different as the tiles are never laid out the same way twice.

Be warned however it may take a while to get used to playing this game. The mechanics of the game can be confusing to new players, and arguments will undeniably break out due to disputes. If you can be patient and take the time to learn how things work however the game can get interesting. This game is not for everyone. Although I enjoyed it immensely, the length of time it can take to play the game can dissuade some people. Especially if you try to bust it out after a long day at a comic convention. Personal experiences aside, just be aware that not everyone will enjoy this unique look at the end of the world.

Remind me to tell the mayor that he needs to fire the civil engineer.

I give this game 4.25 stars for the ingenuity of combining a card game, a miniature game, and a board game all in one and keeping me entertained as hell as I get to play a different version of Screw Your Neighbor: Zombie Edition. So pick up a copy, and if you like it as much as I do, pick up some expansions and extra zombie figures, you’re goanna need them.
