Can you say “Oh God Yes”? I certainly did when I saw this gun.

This baby is called Double Tap and is produced by Heizer Defense. I could go into details about the firing mechanics, and the no-hammer firing features. But really, that just might bore you. If you want to be boored out of your mind, you can watch this less than mediocre video below.

Instead of going over all that, let’s talk about the features that I really like. First and foremost, it’s light. Really light. Like 12-14 ounces light. That’s not even a pound. This makes it ideal for a trip on the run. It’s also about the size of a smart phone, so this will fit in a small purse, your pocket, your waistband (not recommended), the side of your boot, really anywhere. It won’t take up a lot of space which makes it ideal for a secondary back up weapon. This is the Zombieland equivalent to the Saturday Night Special.
The barrels are interchangeable. You can switch between a 9mm barrel and a .45mm. This means if you run out of crater-making 45’s, you can always switch up for the easier firing 9’s, doubling the potential ammo you can carry for the same weapon. This is the feature that sold me. If you’re scavenging for ammo it’s easier not to be picky if you can use multiple types of ammo, a problem that has pestered me in many a game of Fallout 3. Do I carry the .45 for the stopping power, or the .9mm for the extra ammo? Now you don’t have to choose.
Now let’s take a look at the features I don’t like about this weapon. It is basically the handgun equivalent to a shotgun. You can only load 2 rounds at a time. With no clip feature, this makes this a weapon of last resort. There is the convenient storage compartment in the handle, but it only holds 2 rounds as well, making your total ammo stock a grand total of 4 shots. You can carry more rounds on your person, but constantly having to reload will dramatically reduce your reaction time.
As with all small hand guns meant for defense, the aim of such a weapon will probably leave something to be desired. As I said before, this would be a weapon of last resort, not a long distance killer. It would probably be most effective at a distance that would bring you uncomfortably close to a zed. Then again a weapon like this would be a life saver in the hands of someone who may be too weak to wield a machete to much effectiveness. In the hands of someone sick, or young, this could be the difference between safety and cravings for grey matter.
So the question is, would you add this to your gun arsenal? Despite its shortcomings, I would certainly carry this on me. With its light weight and convenient size, there really are no draw backs to having this as a spare backup. You wouldn’t want to use it as your only weapon, but in a Bug Out Bag, it would provide just a tad bit of extra confidence that you have something else up your sleeve, just in case.
