It is time yet again for another weekly update on the zombie news that is reported all around the world! Yes I bring you the news you should be researching yourself to prepare for the pending zombie doom that threatens to envelope us all. If you are waiting for these weekly updates, keep in mind it may come a little too late. These updates are all on last week’s news. In the event of an actual emergency you would already be dinner to your ex-best friend who suddenly developed a taste for something other than beef. However if that news did suddenly actually happen, I would post an emergency blog, from my cell phone, as I run away like a little girl. As I would be much more concerned for my own safety than those reading this blog (sorry), it would probably just be something like … “Zombies. Run!”
Up first and foremost is news that I first thought was a bad April Fool’s Joke. The earliest article I could find on the story was posted on March 31st, and I didn’t find it till April 1st, so you can imagine my skepticism. However as I have since found several articles on the same subject posted well after the great joke day, we can either count this as a bold face lie, or a sign that we may want to start preparing for our trip to that backwoods cabin you have set up as a safe house. It seems those Ruskies are at it again with a weapon I find just as horrifying as a nuke.
It is reported that Mr. President Vladimir Putin has given the go ahead for the development of weapons that will in essence turn their targets into zombies. Not the mindless, brain eating, sleepless zombies from movies, but none the less very similar. Although no specifics have been released about the specific weapons, it is confirmed that the weapons will have a focus on using microwaves to attack the central nervous system of its targets. This technology can be used for a wide range of effects. We have seen it used in the US and Canada for crowd control. Although the weapons in US and Cannada don’t have the intent to be focused on the nervous system itself, these weapons focus on sending out microwaves that will cause anything from discomfort to pain on the intended target in hopes that they will back down from the activity causing the civil unrest.
A lot of the talk about the specific Russian weapons is about the intended effects of the weapon. Instead of a generalized microwave attack, the nervous system can be targeted to do a number of things. If targeted correctly, the weapons could target brain cells to shut down communication with the nervous system, rendering its target paralyzed. Weapons could be developed to cause the target to have a dramatic change in physiological state (read: cause insanity). Weapons could be developed to transmit suggestions or a command to the target’s thought process. If they wanted to get really gruesome with it, the settings could be amped up to cause failure of internal organs, control behavior, or even drive the target to suicide.
I don’t think I need to explore further the horrors that could come from the development of weapons like these. However on such a grim disposition on the development of these weapons, I would also like to suggest some of the benefits of such research. Yes I said benefits. Certainly any government that could wield this power could abuse it, however the research could also be used to help loads of people. If it could alter a physiological state, could it also benefit someone undergoing physiological treatment to cure a disease? Could solders who rely on stealth for their safety and the success of their missions receive direct orders without the fear of being picked up by radio contact? Could the technology be used to improve communications worldwide enabling direct communication with people to increase productivity? How about using the targeting technology to be able to better target cancer cells in patients ensuring a more positive outcome for their treatments?
Still, no matter what benevolent intentions the Russians may have for their technology in development, I cannot see any future where it would not be used for fear and intimidation purposes. Even just the threat of the technology sends shivers up my spine. What better way for a dictator or corrupt government to ensure obedience of its citizens than by threading to turn them into drooling husks that won’t be able to even perform the most basic functions required for survival? What about by threat of an instant heart attack ensuring the death of that guy who was saying something the dictator didn’t like? Even worse, imagine that your “crime” denoted the punishment of the select shutting down of specific organs ensuring that although you won’t be killed immediately, the rest of your shortened life span will be costly, and painful. I won’t even go into the ramifications if a terrorist organization or some nut job with an agenda gets their hands on weapons that could plant suggestions and commands into the minds of their targets.
Am I a little panicked? Am I being a bit paranoid? Maybe yes. We don’t know what the capability of the proposed weapons posses. We don’t know how far the developers are willing to go or even what limits there will be with weapons of such descriptions. But that’s what causes such fear and paranoia. The “What If” factor. Until we know more, I can predict that there will be much more speculations to come as well as a rash of fear that will be spread, maybe up to the point of Cold War proportions. On the same note of paranoia, we move from potential weapons to real weapons. It has been reported by our source that gun sales have soared in the past few months. In fact so much so that Sturm, Ruger’s stocks are up by 55% already this year. In according to the source, Sturm, Ruger has had to stop taking online orders as the demand has overwhelmed the company’s ability to match it with a supply. There are several reasons for this increase in gun sales. Some are afraid that if President Obama is re-elected to a second term, he will attempt to restrict gun sales and pass anti-gun laws. Other reports cite popular shows emphasizing preparing for the end of the world. And of course, we cannot count out our friend the zombie. What does this mean for you? Well if you are like me, you have started to prepare for emergencies and a zombie apocalypse with everything from food to blankets. Everything except for the all important firearm. My excuse is that the people I live with are not in agreeance with me that it’s important to own a gun. Whatever your excuse is, the important thing to remember is that as the demand for guns increases, and the un-ability of the gun makers to keep up with demands increases, the price for these items will increase as well. It’s simple economics people. If you want firearms for your end of the world preparations, I suggest you get to it, because these items are already not cheap. On the same note, if you want a good investment, stock in gun companies at this point may be a good idea. With everything from Zombie bullets, zombie embellished firearms, and even zombie targets, it seems people want to be prepared… just in case. Original Source: abcnews.go.com
In light of these two big stories, reporting on things such as an expansion in the popular Zombie Dice game, and The Shawn of the Dead Lego set reaching its 10,000 supporter mark seem kind of insignificant. I think I’m going to stop there for this week and allow you guys to make your plans for survival as the signs are clearly there that they may be needed.
